Machu Pichu: The Inca city of Machu Picchu, considered the most significant of all the cities built by the Incas, is located high in the Andean plateau in Peru, above the valley formed by the Urubamba River. Machu Picchu's construction began in the 15th century and was later abandoned. Machu Picchu's fame is due to its sophisticated dry-stone walls, which combine enormous blocks without mortar, its fascinating buildings, which are linked to astronomical alignments, and its panoramic views. But while the noble architecture of Machu Picchu is undoubtedly extraordinary, its exact use in Inca culture remains, with some enormous luck, an unsolved.
