Soccer is an exciting sport, bringing joy to the people who watch it. But while it brings us happiness, it also brings sadness both on a football and non-football level, giving us tragedies of deaths from accidents among amateur soccer players and soccer teams. Here, we'll discuss the three most painful tragedies in soccer that have impacted the world.
Andres Escobar
Andrés
Escobar was a Colombian defender who played for Atlético Nacional in
1994. In the United States World Cup, the Colombian national team
qualified for that World Cup. Andrés went to play. Before going to the
World Cup, he proposed to his girlfriend. Hey, hey, he's going to sign
for AC Milan, the best team in Italy at that time. In Colombia's first
match, we lost 3-1 against the Romanian national team. The next match
for the national team was very important because if they lost the match,
they would be out of the World Cup. So, they would have to win it, and
in the match against the United States, the host country. The match
started well for the national team, trying to score the first goal. But
in the 34th minute, a cross from a United States player, Andrés tried to
block it, but it went in. It was an own goal by Andrés. Thanks to that
goalkeeper, the Messiah lost 2-1 against the United States and was out
of the World Cup. After the World Cup, Andrés went off on a stinging
tangent with a friend. As they were leaving the venue, some people came
to the car with a gun. Thanks to you, I lost a lot. They told him money,
a person told Andrés Escobar, after that he shot Andrés several times,
unfortunately he lost his life at 28 years old, it shocked the whole
world, being a very painful tragedy in football.
Diogo Jota and Andre Silva
Diego Jota and Andre Silva were two soccer players. One played for
Liverpool and the other in the penalty shootout. Diego Jota had married
the love of his life 10 days earlier. From the beginning of his career
in soccer, she was there. Diego would have to travel to England to train
with Liverpool for the preseason. But Diego Jota felt bad and went to
the doctor. The doctor told him he would have a lung problem and
couldn't travel by plane because of his blood pressure. So Diego spoke
to his brother to take him from Spain to England, and Andrés told him he
would take him. In the early hours of July 3rd, Diego J. and Andrés
Silva were leaving in a Lamborghini to England. It is not yet known. But
the Lamborghini's wheel burst and caused it to flip over and the car to
ignite. Sadly, a drawing of Andrés Silva. They lost their lives at that
very moment. The whole world was shocked by the death of the brothers,
leaving us with a very sad tragedy in football.
Chapecoense
Chapecoense
is a Brazilian soccer team that is currently in the league. In 2013,
they qualified for the South American Championship. The following year,
in 2016, they qualified for the Sudamericana, holding a spectacular
tournament, eliminating the best South American teams, such as Gunier de
Barangvelli and Lorenzo from Argentina, and Independier-Avellaneda.
Chapecoense qualifies for the Sudamericana against Atletico Nacional,
the best from Colombia. Chapecoense was going from Ollón to Medelli. The
driver wanted to give them less gas. Now they are in the mountains in
Medelli, Plata, because of that mistake Chapecoense crashed due to lack
of fuel. Of the 78 people on the plane, 72 died and 6 survived. 3
players, 2 pilots and a cameraman. This has shocked the world of
football and society. The Hofeo was awarded to Chapecoense in honor of
the accident.
